Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy
Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy
At London Harley Street Practice, our cardiorespiratory physiotherapy service supports people with breathing difficulties, reduced exercise tolerance and a range of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. Treatment is personalised to your symptoms, medical history, physical ability and rehabilitation goals.
We can support patients with conditions including:
Asthma
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Pneumonia and recovery following chest infections
Pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic respiratory conditions
Reduced exercise tolerance and physical deconditioning
Breathing pattern difficulties
Selected cardiovascular conditions and rehabilitation needs
Comprehensive Assessment
Your physiotherapist will carry out a detailed assessment of your breathing, mobility, exercise tolerance, strength and functional ability. This helps identify your rehabilitation needs and allows an individualised programme to be developed in conjunction with your existing medical care where appropriate.
Breathing and Airway Management
Where clinically appropriate, treatment may include breathing exercises and airway clearance techniques to support more effective breathing and the management of respiratory secretions. These may include breathing control, diaphragmatic breathing, huffing and supported coughing, together with positioning techniques.
Exercise and Rehabilitation
A tailored exercise programme can help improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, exercise tolerance and confidence with physical activity. Where appropriate, this may include elements of pulmonary or cardiorespiratory rehabilitation, combining exercise, breathing techniques and education.
Positioning and Functional Rehabilitation
We can provide guidance on positioning and movement strategies that may help optimise breathing and make everyday activities more manageable. Rehabilitation can also focus on rebuilding strength and physical function following illness, hospitalisation or periods of reduced activity.
Education and Self-Management
Understanding your condition and knowing how to manage your symptoms can be an important part of rehabilitation. We provide practical advice on breathing techniques, exercise, activity management and strategies to support your ongoing health.
Collaborative Care
Cardiorespiratory physiotherapy often forms part of a wider programme of care. Where appropriate, we can work alongside your GP, respiratory or cardiology team and other healthcare professionals to ensure that your rehabilitation complements your medical treatment.
Our aim is to help you breathe more effectively, improve physical capacity and confidence, and maintain greater independence in everyday life.
