14-Day Continuous ECG Patch Monitoring
Advanced Heart Rhythm Assessment
Detect intermittent heart rhythm problems with extended cardiac monitoring
We offer a private continuous ECG patch test for up to 14 days, providing extended cardiac monitoring for patients with intermittent heart rhythm symptoms.
This advanced diagnostic test is more effective than standard 24–48 hour Holter monitoring for detecting sporadic arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, tachycardia, and ectopic beats.
A modern, discreet ECG patch provides continuous heart rhythm recording for up to 14 days, offering significantly higher diagnostic accuracy than traditional 24–48 hour Holter monitoring.
This service is ideal for patients with intermittent palpitations, dizziness, fainting episodes, or suspected arrhythmias that are difficult to capture in a standard ECG.
A Modern Diagnostic Approach
This service uses advanced ambulatory ECG patch technology (Zio XT Patch monitor) to provide a more complete and clinically meaningful assessment of heart rhythm compared with traditional short-term monitoring methods.
It forms part of a modern, efficient pathway for diagnosing intermittent cardiac symptoms in a private clinical setting.

What the Service Includes
1. Application
The ECG patch is applied in clinic by a trained clinician. It is small, discreet, and designed for comfortable wear throughout day and night.
2. Monitoring Period
The device continuously records cardiac electrical activity for up to 14 days, capturing both symptomatic and silent rhythm disturbances.
3. Device Return
After the monitoring period, the device is returned via a prepaid postal system for secure data retrieval and analysis.
4. Analysis & Reporting
Recorded ECG data is processed using specialist analytical software and reviewed by a clinician.
5. Results Consultation
You receive a detailed clinical report, including findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and clear recommendations for management or further investigation.
How the Process Works
Benefits of 14-Day Monitoring
Compared with standard short-duration Holter monitors, this extended ECG patch offers:
Improved detection of intermittent arrhythmias
Higher diagnostic yield for unexplained symptoms
Continuous, beat-by-beat cardiac recording
No wires, batteries, or patient interaction required
Comfortable, discreet wear for everyday life
This investigation is appropriate for individuals experiencing:
Palpitations or irregular heartbeats
Episodes of dizziness or light-headedness
Unexplained fainting or near-syncope
Suspected atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias
Intermittent chest fluttering or skipped beats
Ongoing symptoms despite a normal short ECG or Holter test
Suitable For Patients With…
Clinical Outcome
Your report will typically include:
Full cardiac rhythm analysis over the monitoring period
Identification of any arrhythmias or conduction abnormalities
Correlation of symptoms with recorded rhythm changes (if documented)
Clinician interpretation
Clear guidance on treatment, reassurance, or further testing
FAQs
-
A 14-day ECG patch monitor is a small wearable device that continuously records your heart rhythm for up to two weeks. It is used to investigate intermittent symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, irregular heartbeat sensations, or unexplained fainting episodes.
-
The device continuously records every heartbeat throughout the monitoring period. This allows detailed analysis of heart rhythm patterns and intermittent arrhythmias that may not appear on a short ECG or standard Holter monitor.
-
Traditional Holter monitors are usually worn for 24–48 hours and often involve wires and external recording devices. A continuous ECG patch monitor is smaller, more discreet, and records continuously for a much longer period, increasing the likelihood of detecting intermittent rhythm abnormalities.
-
Smartwatch ECGs provide occasional spot-check recordings, whereas a continuous ECG patch records every heartbeat over an extended period, offering a much more comprehensive clinical assessment.
-
Yes. Extended ECG monitoring is commonly used to investigate suspected atrial fibrillation and other intermittent arrhythmias.
-
This test may help investigate:
Palpitations
Irregular heartbeat sensations
Dizziness or light-headedness
Fainting or near-fainting episodes
Suspected atrial fibrillation
Intermittent chest fluttering
-
Yes. Extended ECG monitoring is particularly useful for symptoms that occur unpredictably or infrequently and may not appear during a short ECG or 24-hour Holter test.
-
The monitor can typically be worn for up to 14 days, depending on your clinician’s recommendation. The actual wear time may occasionally be shorter depending on individual skin adhesion and wear conditions.
-
Yes. In most cases you can continue work, walking, sleeping, and usual day-to-day activities while the monitor records continuously.
Heavy sweating, contact sports, or activities that may loosen the adhesive should be avoided where possible.
-
Yes, but you should avoid showering during the first 24 hours after fitting so the adhesive can fully bond to the skin.
After the first 24 hours:
Take brief showers only
Keep your back facing the shower head where possible
Avoid direct high-pressure water on the device
Avoid soaps, lotions, or oils around the patch
When drying:
Pat dry gently
Hold the patch in place while towel drying
-
Yes, but the monitor should be kept above water and should not be submerged.
-
No. Swimming, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms should be avoided while wearing the monitor.
Excessive heat and prolonged water exposure may loosen the adhesive and interfere with recording quality.
-
Light to moderate exercise is usually acceptable. However:
Avoid exercise during the first 24 hours after fitting
Avoid activities causing excessive sweating
Heavy sweating may cause the patch to loosen or shorten the wear time.
-
Yes. Most patients can travel and fly normally while wearing the monitor.
If questioned during airport security screening, you may inform staff that you are wearing a medical cardiac monitoring device.
You will be given a document stipulating this.
-
Once monitoring is complete, the device is returned using the prepaid postal return system provided.
The ECG data is then analysed and reviewed by a clinician and our doctor
-
If clinically significant abnormalities are identified, we can arrange onward referral, further investigations, or specialist review where appropriate.
-
You will receive a structured, doctor-interpreted report outlining:
Your heart rhythm findings
Any arrhythmias detected
Correlation with symptoms (if recorded)
Recommendations for further management if required

This test may not be suitable for patients with:
Known allergy or hypersensitivity to medical adhesives or hydrogel materials
Significant skin conditions affecting the chest area, including severe eczema, psoriasis, open wounds, burns, or active skin infection
Inability to tolerate adhesive dressings for prolonged periods
Excessive sweating or occupational exposure likely to prevent adequate adhesion
Patients requiring MRI scanning during the monitoring period (the patch must usually be removed before MRI imaging)
Your suitability for this will be discussed before your appointment in a free pre-booking consultation. Please call or email us to discuss this.
